Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day was celebrated at Anand Niketan with a lot of cheerfulness and merriment, making it a day to cherish and remember for all the grandparents and the grandchildren.

A photographer had been commissioned to take photographs of every grandparent with their child, against a specially constructed backdrop that was later gifted to the grandparents, much to their delight, to take home as memoirs.

The event commenced with the welcoming of the grandparents.

Ms Nashy Chauhan, Director, Anand Niketan Group of Schools thanked them for gracing the occasion with their presence and said that grandparents played a special role in the lives of their grandchildren.

She highlighted that the Anand Niketan Schools lay strong emphasis on the emotional bonding of children with their family members and this day was organized to further strengthen the unique bond between children and their grandparents.

The special day was filled with dance and song performances by the children, the first of which was a welcome dance.

A skit showcasing values in a family between three generations was a show stealer and left many an eye moist.

Grandparents joined in a game of musical chairs, singing songs and reciting poetry.

There was a heartwarming response from the grandparents who lauded the schools' effort.

One grandparent said that that it made him feel proud to see his grandchild performing.

Another grandmother echoed similar feelings saying that it was nice to see the school inculcate good values in the children from such a young age.

Mr. Kamal Mangal, Trustee ,Anand Niketan Group of Schools, gave a poignant and thought-provoking message saying that the erosion of values and character in modern society was very disturbing.

Education is not preparing people to face lives but only to eke out a career for himself.

He stressed the need for providing more value based education to the children.

He said that only when information, knowledge and wisdom were put together to set the values of life, the purpose of education would be solved.

We must first concentrate on the human development process and then focus on intellectual clarity.

Unless emotions and values are refined, no sustainable education is possible.

He invited the grandparents, to sit with him whenever they were free and deliberate upon what changes needed to be made in the current educational system to eke out the competitive nature of education and make it more value based.

The day ended with the happy grandparents being treated to sumptuous snacks and tea.
