                         ANTS bend for The International Day of Yoga 2016

The Hon’ble Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi during his address to the UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014 stated: "Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. " He suggested June 21, which is the Summer Solstice, as the International Day of Yoga, and said that, "the date is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world. "

177 nations, including USA, Canada and China co-sponsored the resolution for celebrating yoga, a 5,000-year-old physical, mental and spiritual practice having its origin in India, aiming to transform both body and mind.

Anand Niketan Satellite Campus supported this UN recognition of the union of individual consciousness with universal consciousness on the 21st of June’2023 by following the yoga protocol set for the day.

Approximately 1500 enthusiastic souls kick started the celebration by moving in unison and flexing their bodies into different asanas right from 7.45 am.

The students were first briefed about the significance of this 5000 year old tradition by Ms Meghna Zala, the instructor for yoga and gymnastics in the school. An international yoga champion herself, she represented India in the World Yoga Championship, held in Argentina in the year 2002. The school conducts regular yoga classes as per the international pattern, globally popular as ‘Artistic Yoga’, for students, right from 5 years onwards, under her guidance.

She religiously followed the international protocol for the day where all the students and teachers of the school practiced yoga for 45 minutes. The session included - warm up exercises, standing and sleeping postures.

Super brain yoga , an ancient practice from the traditional gurukul system, was introduced to the primary school children by Ms Jigna Zaveri, a yoga enthusiast and primary school educator, along with a few simple asanas that they enjoyed doing .

Speaking about the celebration in school, Ms Nashy Chauhan, director, Anand Niketan Group of Schools, shared , “Not only does yoga enhance vitality, focus, memory and productivity but it also stabilizes the body, mind and emotions. It is beneficial to kids in numerous ways and thus it is an integral element of our schedule in school. The day in the school begins with the positive vibrations of “Om” reverberating in the entire campus, purifying the environment and bringing a sense of calmness and peace. Our students have made the school proud by reaching the state level in many yoga competitions. Today’s event was our solemn contribution and a way of expressing solidarity towards this global initiative’.
